In the losing effort, DeShone Kizer and Brett Hundley combined for 155 passing yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. LeShun Daniels Jr. led the Packers with 23 rushing yards on five attempts while J'Mon Moore and Geronimo Allison combined for 102 receiving yards on six receptions. Vince Biegel led the Packers with six tackles, Reggie Gilbert had one sack and Ahmad Thomas had one tackle for loss. The Packers offense that produced 82 points in the first two games was just 4-15 on third down and averaged three yards per carry in their recent contest. Still, the Packers are averaging 29.3 points through three preseason games and has produced a combined 69 first downs. Not too shabby for a team not playing Aaron Rodgers. The Green Bay Packers have won five of their last seven preseason games.


The Kansas City Chiefs are now 1-2 in preseason action after losing to the Chicago Bears, 20-27. In the losing effort, Patrick Mahomes and Chase Litton combined for 263 passing yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Mahomes led the Chiefs with 11 rushing yards on two attempts while Tyreek Hill and Marcus Kemp combined for 143 receiving yards and one touchdown on nine receptions. Anthony Hitchens led the Chiefs with seven tackles, Reggie Ragland had six tackles and T.Y. McGill had one tackle for loss. The Chiefs finally got linebackers Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland some playing time in their last contest, which should add depth to this defense moving forward. The Chiefs will quickly play this meaningless game and then won’t play another home game until September 23 against the San Francisco 49ers. The Kansas City Chiefs have split their last six preseason games.

The Packers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games. The Chiefs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Again, I'm not trying to lay big chalk in a meaningless preseason games, especially in the last one where majority of the guys playing won't be on an NFL roster in the next two days. The Green Bay Packers have also been an offensive machine this preseason and have looked better than the Chiefs for what it's worth. Getting four points seems to be the play here. There's no reason to consider big numbers in a game like this.

Of course, we should see a larger sample size of the Packers starting unit in this contest, which could lead to even more big plays. The Oakland Raiders are now 1-1 in preseason action after losing to the Los Angeles Rams, 15-19. In the losing effort, EJ Manuel and Connor Cook combined for 109 passing yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Chris Warren led the Raiders with 110 rushing yards and one touchdown on 18 attempts while Jalen Richard and Paul Butler combined for 70 receiving yards on six receptions. Jason Cabinda led the Raiders with six tackles, James Cowser had one interception and Shilique Calhoun had two tackles for loss. The We should finally see a heavier dose of Derek Carr after he’s thrown a combined four passes in the first two games. The Raiders have scored 31 points in the first two contests, and it looks like Warren has a chance to steal a roster spot to create a crowded backfield. Of course, the big story for the Raiders remains the fact linebacker Khalil Mack hasn’t been signed, and we’re inching closer to the regular season. The Oakland Raiders have lost five of their last six preseason games.

The Raiders are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass and 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The Packers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings, the favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings and the over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings. The third preseason game is usually when we see the starters for about a full half, and if that’s the case, how in the world can you turn down the Packers and points with Rodgers on the field? Even if the Packers don’t play their star quarterback a ton, Kizer and Hundley have shown enough to have confidence they can get the job done. The Oakland Raiders gave the Detroit Lions every chance to beat them in the opening preseason game and didn’t do much against the Rams, so you can’t be overly impressed with this squad two preseason games in. I just can’t turn down a free field goal with how explosive the Packers have been on the offensive side.

The Steelers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games, 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games on grass and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Packers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

Both of these teams have made you some nice coin the past couple of years in the preseason, and they were two of the more impressive teams last week in preseason action. The Steelers have a nice backup QB situation going on that's creating some nice production, and the Packers have two former starters leading the way, which always gives me some stability and confidence. I like the Packers at home simply due to the offensive depth and the confidence I have in a combination of Hundley and Kizer. Neither were great as starters, but they can produce at a solid level against backups. Give me the Packers and the cheap line.

The Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets meet Friday in NFL preseason action at MetLife Stadium.

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a 10-win season and have been a popular pick with bettors to win the Super Bowl this year. The Falcons are set at a lot of positions, especially on the offensive side, so be prepared to see Matt Schaub and Garrett Grayson battle it out for the backup quarterback job. Schaub is obviously quite experienced, but he has a habit of making positive plays for the other team, so be careful. Rookie running back Ito Smith will fight to work his way into the rotation and seeing wide receiver Calvin Ridley become the difference maker this unit needs could be enough to put this squad over the top. Defensively, the Falcons seem to have their starters in place as well, but second round pick cornerback Isaiah Oliver could emerge as the top backup and seeing Vic Beasley back on the defensive line full time should help him improve last years numbers. The Atlanta Falcons are about as set on paper as any team in the league.


The New York Jets are on the opposite side of things and should be treating preseason as a chance to become a more consistent team that can finish games. Josh McCown is what he is at this stage of his career, but a quarterback competition between Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold is worth watching. Possibly Terrelle Pryor returns to the player he was the last season with the Cleveland Browns, and a trio of running backs in Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell and Thomas Rawls has a chance to be one of the deeper, better backfields in the league. Defensively, the Jets have a lot of intriguing starters who have the potential to form into something really productive. Avery Williamson says he wants to make sure the defense is communicating with one another and flying to the football. This should be an energetic bunch for this contest. The New York Jets have playing time available, so this should be a competitive team to watch in preseason play.

The Falcons are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Jets are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games, 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games on fieldturf and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Jets last 5 home games and the under is 7-0 in Falcons last 7 games overall.

Usually I'm not trying to lay chalk anywhere above three points, so the hook scares me a bit in this game. However, I'm not trying to side with a team that's going to give Matt Schaub majority of the reps. He's extremely turnover prone and is facing a Jets defense that plays the ball well. Also, Bridgewater is a former starter who can still start in this league, so you know he'll be eager to prove himself, if not for the Jets, for somebody else, and while Darnold has turnover issues of his own, he can still throw the ball well and carve up second string defenders. I like this Jets roster at elast for preseason action. So, I'll lay the chalk.
